For this reason, at our properties we nurture native flora as a way of attracting biodiversity, therefore improving the conditions of the ecosystems present there. Actions taken include the creation of native plant nurseries in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Jamaica. In Playa La Romana, the company collaborates with the <\/span>National Botanical Garden of the Dominican Republic<\/a> in developing a nursery of over 3,000m2 with more than 15,000 specimens produced. In Mexico, the Environmental Management Unit (UMA in Spanish) has been producing up to five species protected by Mexican laws for some years (parlour, Sargent’s cherry, Florida thatch and ponytail palms, and the black trumpet tree).<\/span>

The company has planted over 2,000 protected species trees at its properties in the region since 2019. Grupo Pi\u00f1ero has, therefore, offset its carbon footprint by more than 300 tonnes of CO2 per year. <\/p>
