Halloween in Tenerife: The best place to enjoy with your family

One of the most eagerly awaited times of the year is almost upon us; the All Saints’ Day long weekend, a holiday that has become more commonly known as Halloween in recent years.

This holiday provides the perfect excuse for many to take a short family break away somewhere. With that in mind, the island of Tenerife is the ideal destination in which to enjoy a unique Halloween getaway. Besides the amazing climate and the numerous attractions, certain towns and cities in the Canary Islands are recovering the popular finados tradition. The Fiesta de los Finados used to be celebrated on the day before All Saints’ Day (31 October) to remember the dead. It was a celebration of life and people’s fears were dispelled by telling stories, eating and drinking. Chestnuts, walnuts and apples were the usual fare back in the olden days, washed down with anisette and honey rum while the traditional parranda groups provided the musical entertainment.

Entertainment in Tenerife

Nowadays, the return of this tradition comes with numerous festivals and celebrations in which the real stars include pumpkins, vampires, witches and bats, among other things. The Bahia Principe Fantasia Tenerife hotel in San Miguel de Abona, which is located in the south of the island and offers a themed family atmosphere, meets all the requirements for both adults and children to enjoy the charms of Tenerife while offering a comprehensive and terrifying range of entertainment options at this time of the year.

The entertainment team at the resort is organising four days of themed activities specifically for Halloween this year: Thursday 28 October is Witches Day; Friday 29 October is Zombies Day; Saturday 30 October is Vampires Day; and the big finale on Sunday 31 October is Halloween Day. Each day will include a number of monster or pumpkin creativity workshops, zombie face painting, hair-raising games, a haunted mini-disco, story-telling spaces, topical films and, of course, Halloween would not be the same without the traditional “trick or treat”. The range of entertainment options will include much more.

Naturally, all this will be accompanied by the frighteningly impressive decorations that will cover all the hotel facilities, which include a central castle that invites guests to dream up their own adventures, and a replica age-old Dragon Tree, which are typical of the Canary Islands. The hotel also has areas that are reserved for adults, with an infinity pool looking out towards the Atlantic, six other swimming pools, five restaurants and a spa centre, among many other facilities and services.
