Cozumel Carnival 2013 in Riviera Maya

The Cozumel Carnival 2013 will be held from February 6 to 13 , starting with the coronation of the kings and queens of this edition will also undertake tours of traditional floats between 9 and 12 February to conclude on Wednesday 12.

In Cozumel Carnival you will find music, dancing and fun in one of the world’s most beautiful islands. And Bahia Principe Riviera Maya is the best place to stay just a half hour away from this holiday island.

The Carnival is a public celebration that takes place before the Christian Lent, and therefore with variable date in February or March;  it combines elements such as costumes, parades and festas on the street. The culmination of the carnival comes with to the burning of Juan Carnaval or the imposition of ashes.

The word Carnival means “farewell to meat”, it is believed that in ancient times, due to lack of cooling methods Christians had to eat all the goods they could not eat during Lent (by fasting) and under this pretext many localities organized, the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, the Carnival festivities in which they would consum all that could spoil during Lent.
